issue 28: building SEO niche blogs
Dear Friend,
phew - I´m exhausted. I had a good deal of extra work this month and unexpected troubles with an affiliate tracking script. But I´m glad that I´ve managed to finish a new tutorial and update the CaRP video turial.
Today I have an article for you that will be exclusive, it won´t appear in the newsletter archive. It gives you a rough blueprint for using WordPress to build SEO niche websites. We´ll refine this technique over the coming months and everything related to it will be exclusively published inside the newsletter, so I recommend you watch out for emails from me and save them.
Hope you enjoy today´s issue. These are the topics:
1) Learning from mistakes
2) IZArc tutorial and Vault update
3) Building SEO niche websites with WordPress
1) Learning from mistakes
With high enthusiasm, I´ve launched an affiliate program at my other website EasyWebTutorials.com a few weeks ago. Before this, I´ve been shopping around for an affiliate tracking solution that I could install on my site and would offer me a lot of flexibility as well as good support and reliable tracking.
Reading many reviews and comparing the solutions, I´ve finally decided to go with “AffiliatePro”. My choice for this tool was also positively influenced by the quick and satisfying response that I´ve got to a question regarding possible modifications and additions to the script.
I went ahead, installed it and launched the affiliate program. Many of you signed up and then I noticed that I needed to add a few minor but important features - I don´t want to go into details about these, rest assured they are important.
So I´ve contacted the creators of the script again with my whishlist of additional features but didn´t get a response. I tried several times through different ways … nothing.
Hmmm … now what ?
I went shopping again and I´m still not sure what will be the best solution. While doing my research I stumbled across interesting discussions in SEO and affiliate forums about affiliate programs and duplicate content.
There, I discovered that the way I had instructed affiliates to link to the free tutorials in order to get their affiliate IDs tagged to their referrals would possibly result in a big duplicate content problem. Actually, I also noticed that the tutorial pages where not indexed and had a PR 0 while other pages already have some PR.
So I finally decided that it would be better to temporarily close the affiliate program for new signups and find someone who can help me to modify the script to improve the statistic reports and also to integrate it with my autoresponder system, allowing me to track the subscribers you refer and eventually offer you a pay per lead program, too.
That´s why the affiliate program at EasyWebTutorials is temporarily closed and I´m sorry for the inconvenience this may cause to all existing affiliates. I should have planned more carefully, visited more forums, talked to other affiliate managers and I should have tested the affiliate tracking script better before opening the affiliate program.
Nevertheless, the script (AffiliatePro) is great. As soon as I have found one who is able to give a reliable support to maintain the software, add new features and integrate it better into my site, I will re-open the affiliate program.
2) IZArc tutorial and update to the vault
What the heck is IZArc, you ask ? It´s an awesome archiving tool, at least as good as Winzip but with one important difference: it´s free.
Well, I´ve noticed that quite a few people don´t know how to work with ZIP archives, some even didn´t know that they needed to extract the whole zip archives of the video tutorials in order to be able to view them.
And btw - I know of at least one famous internet marketer who didn´t know yet what I´m showing you in this tutorial. A very cool feature of IZArc is the archive span function.
If you have very big files that you are offering for download (such as my video tutorials), you may find that quite a few people (even those who are on fast internet connections) experience problems with your downloads. It does not only annoy them when a download gets stuck in the middle and they have to try several times to succeed but these unsuccessful download attempts also waste your precious bandwidth.
So, with IZArc you can split up a big zip archive into several smaller pieces in any size you like and offer these pieces for download. Of course, you should also include a link to the download page for IZArc somewhere on your product download page and also give them instructions how to use this tool to put the pieces together.
To ease it up for you, I have put this tutorial online, so you can simply link to it from your download page. http://www.easywebtutorials.com/tutorials/izarc.php
Or directly to the “how to merge a spanned archive” instructions:

Of course, I have also implemented this technique and chopped two of the bigger tutorials (the WordPress and the Wordtracker tutorial) into smaller pieces.
The IZArc tutorial (with screenshots and some videos) is also available for you as a download, so you can comfortably study it on your computer, whenever you like.
Log into the vault and download the new tutorial as well as the other ones which you might not have yet.

3) Building SEO niche websites with WordPress
Why should anyone bother to use the blogging tool WordPress to build search engine optimized niche websites ? Why not stick with a HTML website builder and good old static webpages ?
Well, there are quite a few advantages of building either an entire site with WordPress or at least adding a WordPress blog with keyword focused articles to an existing site.
