WordPress Minisites Live Experiment - Part 2

Me and my family are back home from a great vacation at the seaside. Weve been enjoying the sunny weather and beautiful beaches. While away, a ghostwriter has written a couple of great articles for me. She will be finishing all 20 articles this week and then Ill start posting them to the blog and also submit a few articles to article directories in order to start getting links and traffic to the new site.

The things I have done on the blog so far:

Theme editing:
I created a simple header and added it to the header template. I also figured out how to edit the files “wp-register.php” and “wp-login.php” to add my website header and some more text to the user registration form.

Plugins: I have installed quite a log of plugins for this new blog - these are:

Akismet - to prevent my blog from comment spam
AdSense Deluxe - to manage Google AdSense ads within blog posts
ak-subscribe - to display RSS feed subscribe buttons in the sidebar of my blog, so that users are able to easily add my blog to their favorite feed readers.
Post Schedule Ping Optimizer - when posting articles with a future timestamp, this plugin overrides the WP default ping settings and pings the directories only when the post is live on the blog.
runPHP - to be able to post PHP code into my blog posts and have it executed. Needed when you want to include newsfeeds inside posts, for example.
Sociable - to add social bookmarking icons below each post, making it easy for users to tag posts on the most popular social bookmarking sites, thus creating more links to my site.
WordPress Database Backup - for easy database backups
wp-cache - to speed up the loading of pages and save server resources.
XFish Meta - to be able to add meta keyword and description tags to each page and post.

Content:

I have created a few pages - about, contact, terms of use, privacy policy and submission guidelines. For the legal documents, I use AutoWebLawPro to save me a bunch of time. Now I still need to add content to the “how to …” pages. I feel that I need to show users exactly how they can contribute to the blog. Many people are comfortable with forums and how to post threads, but most likely they are not yet used to submitting stories / comments / articles to a blog. Maybe Ill add even some videos.

A tip for creating categories:

The links to the different categories in the sidebar of your blog are ordered by ID - ascending. In other words: the default category (ID 1) is displayed on top, other categories (the ones you create) below. So, if you want to have the categories displayed in a certain order, it would be wise you think of the categories you want to use, note them down and then submit them in the right order in your blogs admin area.

I know its a little bit confusing, because in your admin area ( under ” Manage » Categories ” ), the categories are listed in alphabetical order.

So far for today. Another 4 hours spent and no revenue yet.

Total time spent: 6 hours
Total money spent: $ 18.40

Revenues: $ 0
