RSS and You - RSS made easy

RSS stands for "Rich Site Summary" or "Really Simple Syndication". It´s basically a technology that allows website owners to easily publish content on their websites and also exchange their content with other websites.

An example for RSS in action are blogs (aka weblogs). Smart marketers are using this type of interactive communication platform to deliver news to their subscribers who can then post their comments, too.

Integrated in the Blog software is an RSS generator which transforms the plain text (written by the publisher) into the RSS format to make the text accessible online.

But there´s more to RSS news feeds. Just like e-mail, you can receive these feeds on your computer using so-called RSS Aggregators, software programs (most are free) that monitor those RSS feeds you have chosen to read for new information and then download (like e-mail) the news for you to read on your computer.

The great benefit for You as a reader is that You don´t have to hand out any of your contact details (e-mail address) to receive the news. If you are sick of all the junk you get after subscribing to a free e-course or certain newsletters, RSS is a pretty good alternative solution for You.

And the benefits for website owners and ezine publishers are huge:

As a newsletter publisher you can finally get your message delivered and don´t have to worry about spam filters.

You can increase your website´s exposure and traffic by syndicating your content to other website owners.

You´ll avoid customer complaints because they didn´t get your support e-mails (caught in spam filter) by simply delivering your updates through a special RSS feed (just for them).

My first contact with RSS was in July 2004. I have learned from Sean Burns´ SEO book that search engines love frequently updated websites, so I´ve been thinking of a way to update my website without a lot of work. I stumbled upon RSS Equalizer, a software tool that pulls fresh content from RSS feeds and displays it on your website.

I used it for a while but due to a few disadvantages of that strategy, I finally built a different tool to update my website with fresh content - SiteUpdateMagic.

My second contact with RSS was in September 2004, when I bought a book (written by a well known "guru" - Dr. Joe Vitale) that teaches how to use RSS to generate traffic to your websites. The first part of this book is a waste of digital paper, as it only repeats the story of the sales letter. The rest is quite o.k., but the price (97 bucks) a bit too high.

Last week though, Adrian Ling contacted me and gave me a review copy of his new book called "RSS made easy". It´s only 57 pages and written in such a comprehensive way that anybody can understand it. I devoured it in only 30 minutes and got so exited about all the opportunities in this technology that I decided to implement it as soon as possible.

You can easily get started with your own blog in 10 minutes using a free service like Blogger or you can install one of the free scripts on your server.

I´ve chosen to use the free software
Wordpress for my blog / RSS feed, as it allows me to fully customize the look of my blog and include my website statistic script into the pages, so I´ll be able to see where the traffic is coming from. Installation was easy and quick, but I still need to customize the template to make it fit TheJungleMarketer´s website design.

Gonna let you know when the blog is ready for you to participate and receive hot news through RSS feeds.

In the e-book, Adrian also teaches you how to use a free software to update your website with fresh content from RSS feeds, like RSS Equalizer does.

If I had received this e-book 4 months ago, it would have saved me over 200 bucks.

Right now, Adrian is selling the book for 40 $, but I´m sure he´ll be rising the price soon as the topic is very popular and he told me that the book is selling pretty well, so I recommend you get your copy of the book today.

2) PPC: Tips to Increase Your Convertion Rates and Profits

In the past issue I told you about the click fraud problem in pay per click advertising, but my intention was not to scare you off from using ppc advertising.

Even though the problem with click fraud exists, ppc advertising can still be a profitable way to promote your products if you´re doing it correctly. A major factor to your success here is the convertion rates of your ppc campaigns. The more visitors you can convert into buying customers, the higher your profits after ppc advertising expenses and the higher you can afford to bid and beat your competitors.

But what can you do to improve the convertion of your ppc campaigns ?

1. Modify your ad:

If you are selling certain products, you could include either the word "buy" in the title of your ad or put the product price in either the title or description of your ad. You´ll probably get less clicks, but those who click on your ad are already prepared to spend some money.

2. target the right keywords:

Sounds trivial, but it doesn´t seem to be easy as many people don´t do this correctly. I often hear "experts" saying that you need to select hundreds of low competitive keyphrases to get a lot of traffic cheap. Those who follow this advice then usually just select all keyphrases they can get related to a certain root keyword, write one ad and send all the traffic to the same web page.

Well, my friend, if you really want to have success with pay per click advertising, then you´ll need to invest some time and go a few extra miles. Basically what you need to do is give your visitors exactly what they are looking for in the most direct way.

Let me explain all this with two different examples:

The first example is for all kind of shopping related websites, i.e. websites that consist of several different webpages in different categories with dozens or hundreds of different products. It doesn´t matter if you promote a merchant through an affiliate program or your own website, the strategy is the same.

Like I already told you in previous newsletters, I´m also using ppc advertising to promote my affiliate posters website cheap-posters-and-prints.com. In addition to the general keyword "posters", I´m also targeting a couple of other general keywords like "movie posters", "art prints", "motivational posters" and lower competitve, exact product keywords like "desperado movie posters", "harry potter posters", "jennifer lopez posters", etc ....

A ppc advertiser that doesn´t go the extra mile would just group all those keyphrases together and send all traffic to the homepage, thus forcing a lot of shoppers to waste time searching for the links to the products they want. The easier you can make it to your visitors, the better your convertion.

So in this example, I´m using a new ad for each keyphrase and send my visitors to the exact product pages or to the respective category index pages and only those visitors for the keyword "posters" are sent to the homepage.

The second example is for websites selling only one product (software or ebook) and direct marketing sales letters. If you have one product that is suitable for different types of customers and you are using different types of keywords to get traffic, then you should have several almost identical copies of your sales letter but individualize the headline and first few paragraphs of each letter to better match the interest of all your visitors.

One great example of someone implementing this strategy is Dr. Ken Evoy. His main product, SiteBuildIt, is a complete online business solution and suitable for many different niches. So he wrote several different introductions that lead into the same sales letter to the exact same product in order to better match each type of visitor´s interest.

For website owners that are looking for ways to generate targeted traffic to their websites: http://traffic.sitesell.com

For people who want to earn money with affiliate programs

For people involved in network marketing / MLM

For people who want to make money selling products at online auctions
http://auctions.sitesell.com

For local businesses (like pizza delivery services, wedding planning services, etc ...) that want to go online
http://localbiz.sitesell.com

For offline businesses that want to sell their hard goods online or work at home people who want to start selling hard goods from home.
http://hardgoods.sitesell.com

For people who want to sell E-goods

Or let´s say you are selling a weight loss program, then you could use different introductions to the sales letter for the following groups of keyphrases:

quick weight loss, fast weight loss, rapid weight loss, easy weight loss, ...
In this group of keyphrases you need to especially attend people´s desire to quickly and easily lose weight

weight loss drug, weight loss diet pill, best weight loss pill
For this keyword group you could start with a review of several available drugs, pros and cons and then either sell the best drug to them or try to convince them that your program is better.

weight loss program, online weight loss program, effective weight loss program, ...
Target all those people that are looking for a step by step program. These have a different motivation than those who are looking for pills and you should talk differently to them.

I guess you got the picture, but if you want to discuss how you could implement this strategy on your website, simply drop me a line.

Oops - I almost forgot:

In addition to the above techniques you can also use a pay per click search engine that has less advertisers (read: competitors) and lower bid prices on most search terms compared with Google AdWords and Overture but delivers a great quality of website traffic. I´m talking about FindWhat.com.

FindWhat gives you a 5$ sign-up bonus with your initial deposit of 50$. Unlike with some other ppc search engines, FindWhat doesn´t force you to spend a minimum advertising amount each month. They also have a pretty unique pay per call advertising system which is especially good for local service providers.

3) Keyword Research Video Tutorial

I´ve just finished a new video tutorial about how to find profitable keyphrases that you can use to build optimized web pages and easily and quickly achieve top search engine rankings for those pages.

It also includes a few important tips for only choosing the right keyphrases and prevent your website from getting penalized.

The videos are free - an exclusive gift for subscribers of my newsletter. To see the whole selection of currently available videos and to subscribe to my newsletter, Click Here

In addition to the video, there´s also a free e-book (314 pages - lots of screenshots) on the topic that you can download from the video page. The book is especially useful as a quick reference when you work on your keyword research.

That´s it for today - hope you will profit from the information given in this newsletter and if there´s anything you want to tell me or just leave a feedback, simply send me an email.

Or better yet - I´ve seen Paul Myers asking his subscribers to buy him a beer when they find anything useful. Really funny idea, but I won´t ask you for a beer - I´d probably get more than I could drink - LOL. Instead you could donate any amount of money you like to help me saving the rainforest, which is one of the major projects in my life.

Thank You.

Leaving You with a smile (refresh this page for a different joke)...
