expect many people to launch new tools and e-products, in

So I´ve spent a good amount of time reviewing a few products,
one review is included at the end of this letter.
But first of all - today´s topics:
1) Search Engine Optimization:
- 3 ingredients to SEO success
- how to get new pages indexed fast
2) Pay Per Click Advertising News and Tips
3) Questions and Answers
4) E-Book review
5) Video Tutorials
Enjoy !
Search Engine Optimization
Have you been wondering why your website´s PR hasn´t increased
over the past few months ? Well, at least you didn´t see any
changes showing up in Google´s toolbar, did you ?
But don´t worry - that doesn´t mean they are not updating their
index anymore. Fact is that your website´s PR is still being
updated but it just won´t reflect in the toolbar immediately.
This new anti seo tactic (delayed toolbar update) is indeed
frustrating for those who are very active in the seo field.
But I must honestly admit, it´s a pretty good tactic to make it
more difficult, especially for those webmasters who are involved
in buying / selling text link ads.
If you´d pay 100 bucks a month for a text link and don´t see
any increase in PR on your website for three months you might
be tempted to think that the other website isn´t passing PR
and drop the ad again.
However, if you have the following 3 qualities, then I´m very confident
you will succeed in achieving top rankings for your website:
Determination:
Keep your long-term goal in mind (i.e. Top 3 ranking for
the popular & competitive keyword of your choice).
Persistance:
Keep adding content to your website and constantly looking for
new linkpartners to increase your website´s link popularity.
Patience:
Don´t expect immediate results (especially for new websites).
The more stones the search engines (like above) are throwing
on your road to the top, the more patience you need.
How to get new web pages indexed fast !
Why should you care about ?
Well, my friend - guess what happens when a new product
comes on the market. And it doesn´t matter if it´s an e-book,
software tool, print book or "as seen on TV" type of product.
Yes - people go online to see where they can buy it and they
are often also searching for more information about or reviews
of the product.
So you write a keyword rich review article about it, upload it
to your website and then wait about a month until some spider
comes by to take notice of the new page.
Imagine if you could get your new page indexed and ranking well
(as almost nobody else is targeting that keyword yet) within a day !
It´s easy - the only thing you must do is:
Train the search engine spiders to visit your site daily !
But how ?
Give them what they are always looking for: Fresh Content !
Does that mean I´ll have to change the content of all of my
web pages on a daily basis ?
Yep !
Ooh No - that´s a lot of work.
Yeah - it used to be. But not anymore.
Since there is software that does the job for you, updating
your website with fresh search engine friendly content has
become very easy.
You might have heard about those new tools that are using
RSS feeds as content sources to update your websites.
I´ve tried one of them and placed the code on three of my
web pages. Checking my web logs a few days later I´ve already
noticed a slight increase in spider visits and now (4 weeks later)
my website´s getting already 3 times more spider visits per day
than before.
A new web page with a review I wrote for the seo software tool
SEOelite got indexed within a day and is already attracting
3-5 visitors daily.
However - there are still 3 things that I don´t like.
Jump to my seo index page
(opens in new window) and scroll down to the bottom of the page to see the tool
in action. You should see 5 articles (from Yahoo´s RSS feed) displayed there.
The disadvantages of using RSS feeds as content resource are
- You have no control over the content that is displayed on
your website. It´s not your original content.
- Your website will only get updated when there are acutally
new articles available. Depending on the source, that might
take up to a week or more.
- Links to these articles are draining away your PR and your
visitors, too. Often an article is designed to presell a
certain product - so who closes the sales then ? Not You.
So what can we do ?
Don´t think I´ll let you hang there without giving You
a solution. And the only solution I found was:
Building a content rotator software !
It´s already working on my website and you can see it in action
on my homepage
http://www.thejunglemarketer.com (opens in new window).
Scroll down and you´ll see two boxes (success tip of the day / auction tip of the day)
with search engine friendly content that changes every day. Now I can have
anything I want in any style I want and with links pointing
to MY presell article pages or I might even put affiliate links into
this fresh content.
And on top of that, I´m in full control over the update frequency:
daily, weekly or on every page view. Here is a page that updates on every pageload.
(just built for demonstration purpose) Reload it to see changes.
Check the source code and you´ll see the plain text - not just a dumb java script.
I bet You wonder if and where you can get this cool piece
of software for your site, right ?
SiteUpdateMagic is now available only as an exclusive bonus for
customers of my RSS video tutorial.
Pay Per Click Advertising News and Tips
NEW: Overture´s Advanced Match
Overture just introduced their new "Advanced Match" option
which substitutes "Phrase Match" and "Broad Match".
While this new matching feature surely facilitates managing
your Overture ppc campaigns, it means on the other hand that
either your advertising expenses are likely to increase or
your convertion rates drop.
How that ? Let me explain:
If you were bidding on a certain keyphrase, "internet marketing"
for example, then your ad used to appear (and still does) whenever
someone searched for that exact keyphrase.
You also could choose to show your ad to people who were searching
for phrases that contained either the phrase (phrase match, f.ex.
"learn internet marketing", "internet marketing agency") or all
of the words in a different order (broad match, f.ex. "marketing
on the internet").
You also could individually adapt your maximum bid for every single
combination of keyphrase - match type.
Obviously, the broader the match type, the more less targeted
keyphrases come into play and therefore it made sense to be able
to pay less for those clicks.
Now, if you choose the "Advanced Match" option, you´ll have to
pay the same price per click as for the exact phrase.
Sure - managing your ppc ads has become easier, but there´s
always a price we have to pay for our lazyness.
Google AdWords Tip
How to build a "negative keyword" list to
increase click-throughs and convertion.
At Google AdWords you have three options to define keywords.
- [keywords] (exact keyphrase)
- "keywords" (any search phrase that contains all keywords in the exact sequence)
- keywords (any phrase that contains any of the words in no particular order)
Example:
When I choose AdWords to get visitors to my autoresponder review,
I´d use the keyword "autoresponders" once with brackets and once
with quotation marks around it.
For [autoresponders], I´ll get clicks from people who are searching
for the exact word only and it would cost me about 90 Cents per click
to get my ad in position 4-5.
For "autoresponders", my ad would cost only about 50 Cents per click
to show up in position 4 or 5. But it´ll also be displayed for
all keyphrases that include that word "autoresponders", f.ex.
"free autoresponders" and other keyphrases that I don´t want to
target.
Fortunately - Google gives its advertisers the possibilty to
include for each ad group a list of negative keywords, which means
that your ad won´t be displayed if the phrase contains these
words. To add a negative keyword to your list of keyphrases you
simply write the word with a dash before it, like "-free".
So in order to make the broad matched keyword more targeted, I´ll
have to find out the terms that people are searching with the word
"autoresponders" included and weed out those that probably won´t
lead to sales.
Strategy #1 for finding negative keywords:
Type your keywords into Overture´s search term suggestion tool and
browse through the list to find the phrases that you don´t want
to target. Here are a few that I don´t want for "autoresponders":
Strategy #2
Check your log files: If you have a script like AdvanceLogger
it´s pretty easy to see which keywords people are using to find
your website. Running my "autoresponders" ad for a couple of days,
I found some more phrases that I want to exclude:
autoresponder recommended leads
techie autresponder
bulletproof autoresponder
microsoft email autoresponder
so I´d add "leads", "techie", "bulletproof" and "microsoft"
to the list of negative keywords for my autoresponder AdWords
campaign.
Questions and Answers
I´ve been asked this month for my opinion about tools like
"RankingPower" and similiar ones, which build keyword optimized
web pages using a template, a list of keyphrases and the search
engine results for each selected keyphrase.
First - I don´t use any of these tools (yet), but I have seen
some pages ranking extremely well for their search terms and
there´s no doubt that you´ll be able to increase traffic to
your website.
Second - I´ve seen lots of those pages that looked like crap and
if I were searching for the keyphrases used by those pages, I´d
just feel annoyed. Shooting at any keyphrase to increase traffic
regardless of converting those visitors into customers or leads
is simply a waste of time and who knows if not some of those
annoyed visitors take the time to submit these website to Google
for a review.
On the other hand, there are webmasters / website owners who
seem to carefully select the keyphrases they are targeting, edit
the templates to match their websites designs and also add useful
content to those pages.
In the SEO point of view, there´s nothing wrong with those pages,
the keywords are in the right places and not stuffed somehow.
So if I would use this type of tool (I probably will in the near
future), I´d take care of the following points:
- carefully select those keyphrases that will not only generate
traffic but also potentially lead to sales.
- create a maximum of 30-50 pages per week in order to simulate
a natural growth of my website.
- edit the templates to match my website´s design
- on the sitemaps for these pages (usually only a long list with
links and no content at all) I´d add a paragraph of text between
every group of 5-10 links.
- make sure the tool uses "dynamic linking" to link to the search
engine listings. Otherwise you´d be draining away your PR.
Important Update: (July 2005):
Google is now paying individuals to search for low quality web sites, especially those built by the above mentioned type of tools and other automatic page generating software. I´ve seen some sites using these tools being penalized and deleted from Google´s index, but some people are still doing well with it.
I just want you to be aware of that sooner or later your website will be found, reported and penalized for using the above type of tools. So don´t use any search engine spam tools and techniques on sites you can´t afford to lose.
E-Book Review
Super Affiliates Confessions - Revealed
by Codrut Turcanu
In the beginning of August I´ve been asked to contribute to this book by answering
a couple of questions about affiliate marketing. As I didn´t have enough time for this
interview, I declined. But 12 other successful affiliate marketers were willing to
talk about the secrets of their success.
This e-book is a 346 pages strong interview style book. Usually I don´t like
very much this type of e-book and that´s why it took me about three weeks before I
decided to take a look at it.
First I intended to only skim quickly over the interviews, but soon I found me hooked up on
many interesting parts, some great snippets of information and valuable tips. The follosing are some
of my favorite parts:
Interview #3 with Andrew Henry includes great tips for marketing on forums, how to establish
business relationships and a few seo tips.
In Interview #4, Anne Ahira reveals their secrets for being unique and the really smart technique
she used to promote an online service (She´d better had kept this a secret).
Interview #5: Brian Kumar talks about his pay per click advertising tactics and his "ultimate
business modell".
In Interview #10 with Jeff Mulligan you´ll learn how to use interviews to pre-sell products and
how to make sure these reports always generate sales (Gonna use this tactic soon). Jeff also
teaches how to write emails that lead to sales and finally gives a great tip for finding niches.
And in Interview #12, Willie Crawford explains how to profit from forums and articles (see the
article that got him 2000 subscribers in one week) and finally reveals how he earns more without
getting more traffic to his websites.
And there are many more valuable tips for Affiliate Marketers. One thing I really liked is the
honesty of all interviewers. One of the questions asked was if someone can become a Super Affiliate
in two months and how they would turn 150$ into 1500$ in 30 days.
Well - I expected the common hype or superficial answers like: "buy a solo mailing and
earn xxx dollars", or "invest in ppc advertising and walk away with the profits" ... You know what
I mean. C´mon - let´s keep realistic.
All of them said that it might be possible to turn 150$ into 1500$ in a short period of time and gave
ideas, but they all admitted that it´ll be difficult when starting from scratch, without an established
website and witout an email list.

Last but not least - The Videos !
As promised - I´ve made the first video tutorials this week. The first
video shows how to open an AdWords account and the second shows how to
directly promote an affiliate program using Google AdWords.
Sure - there will be much more to be done. It took me some time to try
a couple of different combinations of frame rate, screen resolution,
data compressions and sound quality in order to find the one which resulted
in the best possible video & sound quality at the lowest possible file size.
Both videos can be viewed online:

Any honest feedback would be appreciated. If you´ve got questions, don´t
hesitate to ask. You´ve got my email.
